This tiny drawing of a Parisian square by Henrik Arnold Hamilkar Sørensen is all about the art of seeing. Imagine him there, charcoal in hand, squinting at the bustling scene, trying to capture the light and atmosphere of the place, one little mark at a time. What I love about drawings like this is that they show you how much you can do with so little. Sørensen isn’t trying to give us a photo-realistic depiction of Paris. Instead, it's a sketch of an impression, a sense of what it feels like to be there, surrounded by cobblestones, carriages and trees. It's like he’s inviting us to fill in the gaps, to bring our own memories and experiences to the picture. And it makes you think about all the other artists who have been inspired by Paris over the years, and how each one sees the city in their own unique way. Artists are constantly in dialogue with one another, passing on ideas and ways of seeing across time. It's kind of beautiful, isn't it?
