This is Robert Keyser’s "Transformation with Wild Man," a print of some kind, although I'm not sure exactly when he made it. The plate has this beautiful, pale pink border with what looks like a cream-colored interior. I really love how the image seems to have been built up through layers of etched or drawn lines. There's a lovely lack of precision, as if it were made in a hurry, with a kind of energy that I always appreciate, and relate to. Take a look at the kind of square or rectangular shape in the middle – is it a kind of vessel? A book, or a window? The figure that bends over it, who is he, or she? The beauty of a piece like this is that it's open to all kinds of interpretations. For me it recalls the work of someone like Guston, or maybe late Picasso, the way it embraces ambiguity, and a sense of playful invention.
