Shimomura Tamahiro created this artwork called 'A Brocade of the Four Seasons' at an unknown date. It’s giving me ‘landscape as abstraction’ vibes, which, you know, is my kind of thing. I’m really drawn to the muted colour palette, these olive green and golden hues against the dark surface. It’s about process: the layers, the textures, and the way these colours interact. Look at the shapes – they're like puzzle pieces floating on the surface, each one so distinct, yet contributing to the overall composition. These pink ribbons on the edge! They create an intriguing contrast to the dark background. It’s got a very Japanese aesthetic. I'm reminded of Agnes Martin, who explored similar themes of nature and abstraction in her minimalist paintings. Like in her paintings, in this artwork, ambiguity takes center stage. It invites contemplation, urging us to look beyond the surface.
