Roy Lichtenstein made "Sailboats," a large painting, with oils. I love how the blues, greens, and yellows kinda wrestle on the canvas. I can imagine Roy standing there, brush in hand, deciding where to put each stroke, like a dance between intention and accident. The paint looks thick in places, almost sculptural, doesn't it? It's like he's not just painting a picture, but building a world, one brushstroke at a time. That swooping blue line near the top, it feels like a wave crashing, full of energy. I bet he didn't plan it all out in advance. He probably let the paint guide him, reacting to what was already there, like painters do. Painters are always riffing off each other, and this piece reminds me of some other painters too. It's all one big conversation across time, isn’t it? We're all just borrowing and stealing from each other, trying to make something new.
