This head scarf was made by an anonymous artist with textile and beads. It's got this lovely combination of a crisp white cloth with a simple red border, and then these amazing dark beaded fringes. I love how the material is so present. You can almost feel the texture of the cloth, see the tiny imperfections in the weave, like this is something made by hand, touched by human hands. The fringe with the tiny black beads, adds an element of playfulness, like the artist was thinking about decoration, but also about the object itself. It reminds me a little bit of the work of Sheila Hicks, who also uses textiles in really inventive ways. Art is like an ongoing conversation, where artists borrow from each other, and push ideas in new directions. It's about embracing ambiguity and multiple interpretations, so that we can all find our own meaning in these objects.
