This untitled drawing was made by Joan Miró, probably in the late 1960s. It’s made with crayon, ink, and watercolor on paper. The pink scribble at the top—it's so light and airy, like clouds or cotton candy. Then this dancing, almost comical figure drawn in ink, it’s so delicate, like a single blade of grass bending in the wind. It reminds me of the way Cy Twombly would let lines and colors just float on the page, as if gravity didn't exist. Down at the bottom, there’s a tiny blue circle, barely there, but it anchors the whole composition. These spare, quiet gestures show Miró's faith in the creative process, in the simple act of putting materials together. It's all about the journey. This piece feels like a conversation, like a dialogue, with his contemporaries, like Twombly, and with artists yet to come.
