Scene 1: Morning
Curatorial notes
Editor: This immense woodcut, "Scene 1: Morning" by LaToya M. Hobbs, really strikes me. The detail is incredible, and the black and white gives it such a strong graphic feel. What draws your eye when you look at this piece? Curator: The images within images, the portraits on the wall, the fabrics, all act as cultural touchstones. Notice how these repeated motifs create a sense of continuity and memory within the domestic space. What feelings do these symbols evoke in you? Editor: A sense of warmth, of family. It’s like the artist is building a visual language of home. Thanks, I hadn't considered the layering of visual cues. Curator: Exactly! It's about how images carry emotional weight and become part of our shared visual vocabulary.
