Richard Diebenkorn made this reclining nude drawing with ink on paper, and it's cool how you can see the whole process right there on the surface. The ink kinda pools and bleeds, doesn't it? It’s not about perfection; it's about feeling. Look at the guy's hand holding his head – a few quick strokes, but you get the weight, the pose. I love how the ink creates shadows, giving depth without being fussy. The paper peeks through, becoming part of the image. It reminds me of Cy Twombly, that same willingness to let the mess be part of the magic. There is an ongoing conversation between artists through time. Like, maybe Diebenkorn was looking at Matisse, but then he made it his own thing, a little rougher, a little more real. Art isn't about answers; it's about asking questions.
