Kugeln 2005

Alfio Giuffrida made "Kugeln" using a selection of humble materials. Here, an assortment of colorful plastic discs are packaged in clear blister packs, typically used for displaying retail items. Giuffrida repurposes these mass-produced materials, imbuing them with new meaning through artistic intervention. The plastic packaging, usually discarded, becomes an integral part of the artwork, highlighting the role of consumerism and disposability in contemporary society. Each sphere contains a unique composition of layered plastic, creating a vibrant visual experience through their color and form. By elevating everyday objects to the realm of art, Giuffrida challenges traditional notions of value and authorship. The materials, processes, and context in which the artwork is created become essential to understanding its full meaning.
