Giovanni Battista Cipriani created this study in the late 18th or early 19th century using pen and brown ink with gray wash on paper. The artist's hand is evident in the immediacy of the drawing, capturing fleeting expressions and poses, and the texture of the paper adds depth to the lines and washes.
