I hadn't considered the "decay" aspect. They do seem to strangle, rather than support. What about the floating fish? Curator: The fish introduce an element of the uncanny. Ask yourself why they're there and why in such an unusual context? I would interpret these unnatural relationships and symbolic gestures through a post-colonial lens, suggesting displacement and a longing for home. Editor: That's really insightful. Post-colonial displacement makes sense considering the island’s isolation. But what does the crescent moon symbolize, looming so prominently? Curator: Ah, the moon! That is loaded symbol in feminist art and spiritualism; cycles of change, feminine power, time... but note the form: incomplete and obscured. Does it empower or preside as something to which we cannot fully access? Editor: It sounds almost like he’s commenting on many power structures all at once – societal, gendered, spiritual.
