Curator: Well, well, what do we have here? Seems like we are facing “District #4,” an architectural drawing by Pavlo Makov, created in 2018. A bird’s eye view into organized chaos, perhaps? Editor: It strikes me as oddly melancholic. There's something about the density of the structures, and their uniform appearance, that feels… oppressive? Like a silent, watchful grid. Curator: Oppressive, you say? I see it more as an attempt to impose order. Notice how the lines define not just buildings but relationships, pathways, even… societal expectations. The buildings are all of similar shapes and proportions which creates a uniform layout. It resembles plans by Le Corbusier. Editor: Yes, but that very order, the geometric precision—it feels sterile, almost dehumanizing. Look at the shadows, sharp and unforgiving. They add to this sense of… enclosure. What purpose is it attempting to give the buildings and inhabitants? Curator: The geometric organization is undeniable; you can see how Makov's lines intersect to form intricate relationships between spaces. There's a rhythm here, a structure, which brings attention to urban space's purpose. As for dehumanization, I don’t know about that. Is it possible the buildings are placeholders or ideas on concepts of design or layout of urban area? Editor: Placeholders maybe, but potent ones! Perhaps my reaction has more to do with where it takes place within this world. Considering the sociopolitical context, the theme here speaks volumes about how we perceive urban life—not just its physical layout, but the human condition within its walls. This has been a consideration for many throughout history, perhaps the theme continues… Curator: True, a powerful reminder of how spaces shape experiences, intentions and perhaps our souls as well. Pavlo offers something unique, to encourage the observer to meditate on such matters and in my view, it has done that! Editor: Precisely, It has made me really appreciate the architectural work here in front of me. Curator: A meeting of the minds through a masterful intersection of art and space. Always rewarding to explore Makov's work, no?
