Here's a photograph of the courtyard of the Old Men's House in Naaldwijk, captured by an anonymous hand from Monumentenzorg. I'm trying to imagine the photographer setting up their equipment to capture this composition. I'm thinking about the history, and all the residents that must have resided there. How were they feeling, and what was their impression of the building? It makes me think about temporality - the way that architecture stands as a silent witness to the passage of time. Trees frame the architecture, like a painting. Painters and photographers are in an ongoing conversation, inspiring one another’s creativity. The act of seeing embraces ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations.
