Editor: Ettore Spalletti's "Stanza azzurra," created in 2006 using acrylic paint for a site-specific installation, gives me a surprisingly calm feeling. The cool blue panels receding into space make the room feel bigger, almost infinite. It's fascinating! What do you see when you look at this installation? Curator: It feels to me like stepping into a dream, doesn't it? That pale blue, somewhere between sky and water, reminds me of a memory half-formed, always just out of reach. Spalletti, you see, was deeply interested in the landscape of his native Italy, its subtle colours and light. I like how this work gently coaxes the architecture around it, subtly pushing our sense of perspective. Editor: Yes, I see that now. The colour makes the orthogonal lines appear less rigid. Was the choice of acrylic a conscious one to soften those sharp angles? Curator: I imagine so. Acrylics give such a matte, almost chalky surface, very different from a glossy paint. This is more atmosphere than object. I always feel, when looking at Spalletti’s work, that it invites us into a conversation, a quiet space for reflection amidst the noise of the world. A bit like meditation, wouldn't you agree? Editor: Definitely, the installation provides a great experience that invites peaceful reflection. Thank you. Curator: My pleasure. A beautiful experience is always rewarding.
