This footed bowl was crafted anonymously, its clear form adorned with subtle yet potent symbols. Note the radiating lines emerging from the bowl's center, like sun rays, evoking a sense of warmth and vitality. Consider how the motif of radiating lines appears in ancient sunburst patterns found in diverse cultures, from Egyptian solar disks to Hellenistic depictions of Apollo. These lines, originally symbolizing divine power, have been reinterpreted across time, appearing in emblems of royalty and flags, demonstrating the motif's endurance and shifting significance. One is reminded of the psychological impact of light itself. From the enlightenment to spiritual awakening, its presence can act on a subconscious level, inspiring hope and optimism. This seemingly simple design carries layers of accumulated meaning. Like a palimpsest, with each era layering its own interpretation. The bowl echoes the enduring human quest for order and understanding.

Footed bowls (tazze) made in silver, glass or ceramics were prestigious objects on the Renaissance dining table. Elegantly decorated examples such as the present tazza may also have been displayed separately on a credenza in order to showcase the host’s status and wealth. The present dish is notable for its harmonious proportions and for the well-thought-out way in which the structural, blown shapes and the enamel-painted and gilt decoration are coordinated. Framed by a series of circular elements at the rim, a blast of forty radial ribs leads to the abstract fantasy blossom at the center. The flower is rendered in the dotted style, which was characteristic of Venetian glass painting around 1500.
