Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubínčan made this little sketch with pastels, working with soft strokes in muted colors. It’s all very fleeting, like a dream. I can imagine Arnold outside, maybe in a park, quickly capturing these figures with a few lines. There's a figure seated, maybe eating, and two more standing. A little dog hovers at their feet! The colors are close in tone—brown, green, white, grey—and it’s hard to tell what is what, but that’s OK. It reminds me of Vuillard, that quiet, intimate, domestic feeling, but also kind of melancholy. It's a tender act of seeing, a quiet moment frozen in time. I like to think that all artists are in conversation with each other, across time, inspiring each other, you know? The way they see and how they put it down, how they use those humble materials to express something so unique.
