Alfred Freddy Krupa made "Gajeva 20 /street/ at the end of her journey" with paint and collage on a 40 x 60 cm surface. It's a process of layering and obscuring, where the ground is built up from newsprint, a palimpsest of information, maybe even disinformation. The paint is applied in a way that feels both urgent and intuitive. Look at the brown washes that suggest buildings and bare trees, somehow solid and ephemeral at the same time. And then there are these daubs of white, hovering at the top of the image, that could be clouds or snow, but they also read as pure gestural marks, obscuring any clear sense of depth. That one dark, drippy stroke near the bottom right feels key to the whole thing. It runs down the page like a tear or a shadow, activating the surface and tying together all the different elements. It's like Krupa is channeling influences from artists like Cy Twombly, whose work also embraces the raw, poetic energy of the drawn line. Is anything ever really finished, or do we just stop at some point?
