Curatorial notes

Editor: Here we have Robert David Gauley’s watercolor, "Buildings, Ronda, Spain". The warm hues and washes give it a sun-drenched, almost dreamlike quality. What do you see in this piece that maybe I’m missing? Curator: It whispers of the Mediterranean, doesn’t it? I’m immediately drawn to the way Gauley uses light, almost as if he’s trying to capture the very essence of a fleeting moment. It's like he’s painting the feeling of the place, not just the place itself. What do you think? Editor: Yes! I see that too. It's looser than I expected, almost abstract. Curator: Exactly! It's as though he’s inviting us to complete the scene ourselves. Editor: I think I have a better appreciation for Gauley's style and the mood he created. Thank you! Curator: My pleasure. It is a doorway into another time, another place.
