This drawing of a triple wind instrument was made by Pierre Félix van Doren. The composition immediately draws the eye to the center, where three wind instruments converge in a symmetrical arrangement. The simplicity of the lines, rendered in a muted palette, emphasizes the basic geometric forms at play. The lines create a sense of depth despite the two-dimensional surface. Note how the circular motif, framing the instruments, reinforces the unity and balance, yet the asymmetry of the ribbons introduces a playful counterpoint, challenging the rigidity of the overall structure. This work is reminiscent of structuralist ideas, where underlying patterns and relationships create meaning. The arrangement of the horns and ribbons could be interpreted as a symbolic language. Art does not present a fixed reality but is an ongoing exploration of form and meaning.
