This "Powder Horn" was made by Edward White, we don't know when exactly, using what looks like graphite and watercolor on paper. I can almost see the artist with his tools, patiently layering pink and brown to conjure the swirls and delicate curves of the horn. It’s as if the object is emerging through the medium, stroke by stroke. I love how the lines are not just descriptive; they almost seem to mimic the very texture of the glass itself. There's a kind of loving attention to detail, which makes me think this wasn’t just about representing an object, but also about understanding it. It reminds me of those hours spent in the studio, chasing a form, a color, a feeling, and how each mark builds upon the last. You start with a vague idea, and somehow, through the doing, you arrive at something more profound than you ever imagined. It's about being in conversation with the art of the past, and finding your own voice within it.
