Ingrid Selmer-Larsen created this small, green-and-white checked Shaker Kerchief. I love how Ingrid explores the boundaries of pattern and form in something as unassuming as a kerchief. The variations in stripe direction and the solid blocks of color suggest she wasn't just interested in representation. You get the sense she was thinking about the abstract qualities of textile design, too. I can imagine her playing with these simple elements, maybe thinking about Agnes Martin's grids or Anni Albers' weavings. It’s like she's whispering about geometry, color, and the subtle ways we organize space. A painter thinks about these ideas and how they resonate with other paintings or art ideas. I bet this piece was part of a larger conversation about the relationship between art, craft, and everyday life.
