Kandinsky made this oil painting called Composition IV, and looking at it, I’m thinking, wow, this guy was really letting loose. The yellow and blue are so bright and happy, but then there's these sharp black lines cutting through, kind of holding everything together. He wasn't trying to paint things we know, but more like feelings, or even sounds. Imagine him just going for it, trusting his gut, and letting the colors and shapes lead the way. I wonder what music he was listening to? It reminds me a bit of the early abstract expressionists in New York, like de Kooning, just pushing painting to its limits, not worrying about making it look like anything but itself. He was really onto something, showing how painting can be a whole world of its own.
