Frances Godfrey made this drawing of a 'Plane' with what looks like watercolor or tinted pencil. It's all about the slow reveal, the wood grain and the careful carving picked out in these subtle browns and creams. I really appreciate how Godfrey's work is not about grand statements but more about patient observation. Look at the way she renders the number '34' on the side: these small, almost playful details give the object its character, its story. The texture feels so real, like you could reach out and touch the tool, feel the grain of the wood. This reminds me a little of Giorgio Morandi, another artist who found endless inspiration in simple, everyday objects. Like Morandi, Godfrey teaches us to see the world anew, to appreciate the beauty in the ordinary. It's not about what you look at, but what you see, right?
