Georges Hugnet made "Sans tenir compte des prévisions" with collage. I love how the image comes into being through intuition, error, and play. I can just imagine Hugnet in his studio, scissors in hand, shuffling through images. What did he see? Where was he trying to take us? Maybe it was a bit like dreaming: the sea, a dress, legs and high heels, a mass of blonde hair... I can almost see him moving things around on the surface, arranging and rearranging, until suddenly it all clicked. It makes me think about other surrealists and how they looked at the world. Hugnet plays with the relationship between form and content, so that his collages are not just visual experiences but also intellectual puzzles. Ultimately, artists are in ongoing conversation, exchanging ideas across time, inspiring each other's creativity!
