This untitled piece, made by Lidy Prati, appears to be a pen and ink drawing, an intriguing exploration in monochrome. I love the playful process that's apparent here, like doodling in the best possible way. The linework has a great quality. Some lines are bold, thick, and decisive, while others are tentative, delicate, almost like a spider's web. Each connection point is punctuated with a small circle, or a dot, adding a visual rhythm to the whole composition. It feels improvisational, almost like the artist was thinking out loud with her pen. Look at how certain lines overlap and intersect, creating these dynamic pockets of space. The varying line weights create depth and hierarchy, pulling us into the piece. The drawing reminds me a little of some of Hilma af Klint’s diagrammatic works. Art’s an ongoing conversation, right? And this piece is a testament to the beauty that can emerge from an embrace of process and ambiguity.
