Oleksandr Aksinin's "Bosch Pupil" is a monochromatic print full of incredible detail. I imagine him creating this work, meticulously carving into a block, pulling images from his subconscious. Three fish are hanging from threads, each scale distinct. Are they souls? Dangling for eternity? Above, an architectural structure is inscribed with indecipherable text. The piece is dominated by intricate linework and contrasting patterns, creating a sense of otherworldly depth, like the deep sea. Aksinin, who died young, was clearly in dialogue with other artists like Bosch. How does one even begin to construct such a detailed scene? One mark at a time, I guess. It's like a visual poem, open to interpretation, but deeply felt. Art is just one long conversation, isn't it? We’re all just talking to each other across time.
