This compote spoon was made by Johannes Blinxma, and features a pear-shaped bowl and handle with symmetrical enamel patterns. I can almost feel the cool smoothness of the silver. It’s not paint, but the reflective, metallic surface still has a painterly quality. The patterns inlaid into the handle are made of enamel, so it has the glassy and translucent effect of stained glass, but on a tiny scale. See how the enamel forms little shapes, almost like water droplets or miniature hearts. The colours are so delicate, pale blue and yellow, just a hint of decoration. The way the artist integrates these subtle details into the functional form of the spoon is really intriguing. There's something about the intimate scale and careful craftsmanship that reminds me of jewellery. Like Gustav Klimt or the Wiener Werkstatte, it elevates craft to the level of fine art. It’s about taking something ordinary, like a spoon, and turning it into something precious through artistry and design. It makes you think about the beauty and care that can be found in everyday life.
