Marina Pallares painted this piece called ‘The Parachute’, and it's a riot of color and detail. The parachute itself is made up of all these intricate patterns, almost like a patchwork quilt in the sky. You can tell that she took a lot of care with each little section. The paint looks like it's been applied in layers, with some areas thick and textured, and others thin and translucent. This gives the piece a real sense of depth, like you could just reach out and touch it. It makes me think of Gustav Klimt, with all the intricate, mosaic-like details, but with a more playful, dreamlike quality. I keep coming back to the swirling patterns at the base of the parachute – how they seem to both support and threaten to engulf the figure below. Ultimately, Pallares invites us into a world where imagination takes flight and where meaning is never fixed, but always evolving.
