Marina Pallares painted this large square canvas, The Parachute, with incredible detail and color. I can just imagine her, brush in hand, layering all those tiny patterns and dots! The whole thing feels like a dream, doesn't it? The way the figure floats down, suspended by this riot of shapes and colors. Look at the way she’s painted the ‘chute itself, how it’s constructed from all these different decorative panels – paisley, stripes, circles, each one vying for attention. What was she thinking about as she decided how to bring them all together? And then there’s that blue-green background, teeming with life and light. Pallares reminds me of other painters like Klimt who revel in ornamentation, transforming the canvas into a site of pure visual pleasure. It’s like she's inviting us to get lost in the details, to find our own way in this painted world. That’s the beauty of painting – it’s an open conversation that continues across time.
