This is a page of studies that Picasso made with etching. Look at the freedom of line, the way he’s just thinking with a tool, making marks, like doodling in a notebook. I find the way Picasso layered images and mark-making creates a kind of visual conversation. See how the delicate profiles of Marie-Thérèse contrast with the dense, almost chaotic lines of the Rembrandt head? It’s like he’s exploring different moods and styles all at once. Take the Rembrandt head, the way he uses looping lines to create a sense of volume and texture in the beret and beard. Those marks are so alive, so full of energy. This approach reminds me of Cy Twombly, another artist who embraced spontaneity and the beauty of imperfect lines. For both of them art is less about perfection and more about process, a record of thought and feeling.
