Oleksandr Aksinin made this watercolor painting, Outdoor Scenery, and right away, I'm caught by the way the whole scene seems built from flat, geometric shapes, kind of like a stage set. Aksinin layers these transparent washes of green, red, and purple to make a world that feels both familiar and totally alien. Look at how the colors bleed into each other, creating these soft edges that almost vibrate. You can almost feel the artist layering color over color to create the different shapes. It reminds me of the work of Hilma af Klint who was also trying to create paintings of unseen dimensions. Like her, Aksinin is trying to make visible a world that lives somewhere between reality and imagination. It's not about what it is, but what it could be, this is the art of possibility.
