Curatorial notes

Curator: Lee Chun-Yi created this piece, titled "Dwelling in the Mountains," as part of his "Sacrifice" series. Editor: It's striking. The grid almost dehumanizes the mountains, turning them into data points. Curator: The grid is fascinating, isn't it? Considering the series title, "Sacrifice," what sociopolitical ideas might Lee Chun-Yi be trying to convey? Editor: Perhaps the sacrifice of the natural world to industrialization and data extraction? The labor involved in creating this with what appears to be meticulous pointillism seems almost devotional. Curator: Exactly! It becomes a powerful statement about the intersection of tradition, technology, and environmental concerns. Editor: Seeing how the artist employs repetition of tiny marks makes me consider the labor and the industrial processes too. Curator: Indeed, this work certainly gives us pause to reconsider the relationship between humans and the landscape. Editor: It's much deeper than just a pretty picture of some mountains. It urges one to acknowledge the cost and the sacrifice for progress.
