Georgia O’Keeffe made "Plums," in her signature style, with oil on canvas, and it’s really something, right? The brushstrokes are soft, almost sensual, giving the plums a velvety texture. The colors, oh, the colors! Deep reds and blues, they're not just colors, they're like feelings. There's a certain plum, smack-dab in the middle, reflecting light like a polished gem. Look closely, you can almost feel the weight of it in your hand. O'Keeffe builds layer upon layer. It’s like she’s caressing the surface. O’Keeffe knew her way around a flower and fruit. Her work reminds me of another great painter, Agnes Martin, in its sensitivity and quietness. Both of them encourage us to slow down, to really see the world around us. Art is about the conversation and exchange of ideas across time, like sharing a basket of plums, and we all get to take part.
