Editor: This is an intriguing sketch from the British School, titled “[title not known] Verso: Sketches of a Windmill and a Steepled Roof.” It looks like a preparatory drawing, maybe for a larger work. What do you see in it? Curator: I see the physical labor, a subtle commentary on class and gender. The figures seem to be pulling something, perhaps against their will. Who benefits from their labor? Editor: That’s interesting. I was focused on the form, but not on the content. Curator: How does their struggle reflect broader societal power dynamics? Do you think it challenges or reinforces the status quo? Editor: I hadn't considered it that way. I'll have to look at it again. Curator: By questioning the context, we can uncover the layers of meaning embedded in the artwork. Editor: Thank you. I will never look at sketches the same way again.
