Anatoli Kaplan made "In the Morning" using lithography, and what strikes me is the texture, like a field of tiny, insistent marks. It’s a process of building up an image from almost nothing, letting it emerge gradually. Look at the way Kaplan renders the light filtering through the window. It's not about capturing a precise likeness, but more about suggesting a mood, a feeling. The granular texture gives the whole scene a kind of dreamlike quality, as if we're peering into a memory. I love how the details begin to emerge the longer you look: the cat on the chair, the toy on the floor. Each mark feels deliberate. It reminds me of Piranesi's etchings, the way he used line and shadow to create these intricate, almost overwhelming spaces. Ultimately, "In the Morning" invites us to slow down, to look closely, and to find beauty in the unexpected.
