Editor: So, this is Allyson Strafella’s piece, “Annex.” It’s small, about 9x6 inches, and dominated by red. I’m struck by the contrast between the textured, almost map-like shapes and the smooth, flat background. What's your read on this work? Curator: It’s like a memory, right? Faded, powerful in its simplicity. The red is so visceral, immediately drawing you in. But those textured blocks… they’re not just shapes, they're whispers of something built, something structured. Editor: Whispers? Curator: Yeah, like fragments of a city plan seen through rose-tinted glasses. There's a tension here. The urge to define, to map, against the overwhelming wash of feeling. Does that resonate with you? Editor: It does now. The red felt assertive, but I see the uncertainty in those textures. Curator: Exactly. Strafella is showing us the feeling *of* a place, more than the place itself. It’s about the emotional architecture. Editor: I hadn't considered that. Thank you!
