Iwo Zaniewski’s work is an invitation into a contemplative state. The painting presents a subdued landscape where the boundary between sea and sky blurs, rendered in a soft palette of blues and creams. Born in 1956, Zaniewski belongs to a generation of artists who, working in the aftermath of World War II, sought to capture the emotional and psychological landscapes of a world grappling with trauma and change. The haziness of the scene almost evokes a dreamscape, inviting the viewer to reflect on themes of memory, identity, and belonging. The work echoes traditional landscape painting, but it develops an alternative narrative through its emotional charge, inviting us to explore the intersection of personal memory and collective history. In this tranquil landscape, we find a space to contemplate our place within a larger narrative and confront our own emotional and historical landscapes.
