Linder, born in 1954, made this ‘Untitled’ collage by combining found images. Her work emerged during the British punk and post-punk era. The image shows a nude woman whose head has been replaced with a peach colored rose. She sits in front of a dressing table while another woman is visible in the mirror. This juxtaposition evokes a sense of unease and challenges conventional notions of beauty and femininity. Linder’s collages are often described as a visual assault, reflecting the radical and confrontational spirit of punk culture. As a feminist artist, Linder deliberately appropriates and subverts images from mainstream media. Her aesthetic is an interrogation of gender roles, consumer culture, and the objectification of women. She once said, ‘I see my work as a form of cultural sabotage, a way of disrupting the codes and conventions of the dominant culture.’ Through her use of collage, Linder compels viewers to question the underlying power structures that shape our perceptions of gender and identity, while acknowledging the emotional and personal dimensions of resistance.
