"825 The Trees Are the Flowers of the Good" was made in 1982 by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, using mixed media. The image is dominated by the recurring motif of the spiral, or concentric circles, arranged like trees. These are not merely decorative; they echo the cycle of life, growth, and decay, a theme as old as art itself. Spirals appear in ancient labyrinths, Celtic art, and even nature. They are a potent symbol of life's unfolding journey. Consider how this motif has evolved through time. Originally, it may have represented the sun's course, but over time, it has come to symbolize the ever-turning wheel of existence. Like the ouroboros—the snake eating its tail—the spiral reminds us of the cyclical nature of time. In our subconscious, the spiral triggers profound associations, a visual echo of our collective memory. It’s a symbol that resurfaces in art, religion, and dreams, each time imbued with new significance while retaining its ancient power.
