Editor: Here we have Jack Bush’s vibrant work, "Cross Over," held at the Tate. The intersecting bars of color over the textured yellow field create a striking image. How do you interpret this work within the context of its time? Curator: Well, considering Bush's abstract expressionist background, the image reflects a move toward simplified forms. It makes me think about the tension between individual expression and the increasing institutionalization of abstract art at the time. How does it strike you in relation to the galleries and museums where you’ve seen similar works displayed? Editor: I guess I never thought about how the art world itself shaped the art. I’ll definitely think about that more from now on! Curator: Exactly! The context is crucial.
