This is an announcement for the Corps of Students of the MTS in Haarlem's sixteenth anniversary party, sometime around February. It is a printed flyer, and you can see how the ink sits on the page, a little uneven, a little worn. It's just a fragment, really, but it makes you think about the process of making something, and how it gets used, passed around, maybe tacked up on a wall somewhere. I'm drawn to the idea of this announcement as a kind of stand-in for the event itself, a physical thing that points to something else. Think about the way the words are arranged, the different sizes and weights of the fonts. It's not just about conveying information; it's about creating a feeling, an atmosphere. There's a kind of awkwardness to it, a handmade quality that I find really appealing. You see this same spirit in the work of someone like Mike Kelley, who took everyday materials and transformed them into these really complex, emotionally charged objects. Like Kelley, this flyer reminds us that art can be found in the most unexpected places, in the everyday stuff that surrounds us.
