Banksy made this mural with spray paint on a war-torn building in Ukraine, and what strikes me is the contrast between the delicacy of the gymnast and the brutality of the setting. It’s all about the process of making, isn't it? The texture of the wall – pockmarked, peeling – becomes part of the artwork itself. Banksy uses the existing environment, the raw physicality of the damaged building, to amplify the emotional impact. The dark void where the wall has been destroyed becomes a stage, a silent scream. Look at how the gymnast is rendered with quick, assured strokes. Her body is graceful, but there’s a certain tension in her pose. She is almost floating, but grounded on the destruction. It reminds me a bit of those moments in Goya, where beauty and horror coexist, challenging us to find meaning in the chaos. Art isn't about answers, it's about opening up new spaces for feeling and thought.
