Editor: This is "Jesus Help Me Find My Property" by Tony Swain. It's an enigmatic collage, almost like a fragmented dreamscape. The way these disparate images blend…it's really intriguing. What do you see in this piece? Curator: It feels like a journey through memory, doesn’t it? Swain's layering creates a disrupted landscape. Newspaper becomes scenery. The "property" could be literal or a search for belonging, don’t you think? Perhaps it's even self-referential? Editor: I never thought of the newspaper as a landscape itself! Curator: Exactly! It makes me wonder about the stories within the stories, the newsprint becoming the very ground we walk on. Editor: It's given me a whole new perspective on collage. Curator: Me too. Art always leaves you with new questions, doesn't it?

This panoramic landscape unfolds on close inspection into layers of applied paint, printed images and text. Collaged newspaper is painted over until images and texts blend into a harmonised and sedate composition. The imperfection of the bent corners and ripped edges are as much part of the work as the paint. Gallery label, February 2010
