Gotthard Graubner created "Lysis" using a technique he developed, involving layers of paint-soaked synthetic material over a stretcher frame. This places him in the lineage of post-war German artists grappling with the legacy of expressionism. Graubner moved away from traditional representational art, seeking to evoke emotional and sensory experiences through color. This was a period of questioning traditional forms and looking for new ways to express inner states. "Lysis" invites us to immerse ourselves in the subtle gradations of red. Graubner’s works explore the complexities of perception and feeling. Can we really separate pleasure from pain? What is the relationship between violence and sensuality? What does it mean to feel alive? "Lysis," with its warm color palette and ambiguous form, offers a space to reflect on the intersection of these questions.
