Curator: This is Jacques Callot's miniature etching, "Saint Privatus." It's incredibly detailed for its size, only a few inches tall! Editor: It has this graphic novel-esque energy, a single panel bursting with violence. Is it meant to be beautiful? Because, wow, it's disturbing. Curator: Well, Callot was a master of capturing drama. Notice how he uses the cave as a frame, almost a stage, for the saint's martyrdom. It's dated around the early 17th century. Editor: The repetition of the clubs beating down really sells the brutality. And that upturned vase... Is it a symbol of something broken? Life, perhaps? Curator: Possibly! Or lost potential. The image is stark, but it speaks volumes about faith and sacrifice. Editor: It definitely leaves a mark. I am not sure I will be able to shake this one off.
