Curatorial notes

Editor: This is "Bethrothal of the Virgin" by Noël Eugène Sotain, housed at the Harvard Art Museums. It's a very detailed scene, and almost feels like peering into a miniature world. What do you see in this piece? Curator: It whispers of tradition, doesn't it? I imagine Sotain, pen in hand, deeply moved by the scene and the hands united, an almost theatrical stage. He seems to want you to look and imagine yourself there. I'm curious about how the artist has woven together a sense of both reverence and human connection. Editor: It definitely makes you think about what's important in creating a sacred space. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Curator: My pleasure!
