Alfred Freddy Krupa made 'I And Two Escape Attempts' with ink on paper. I’m struck by the immediacy of this work. There’s a rawness in the application of ink that speaks to a very active, almost urgent process. The stark black ink against the white paper creates a powerful contrast. Look at how Krupa uses varying densities of ink. The face is a dense, tangled web, while the shoulders and chest dissolve into lighter, almost ghostly strokes. These fluid lines give a sense of movement, as though the figure is in a state of flux or trying to break free. The title definitely reinforces that feeling of restless energy and a yearning for release. It reminds me a little of some of Goya’s darker, more brooding works, or maybe even some of the expressionistic self-portraits of Egon Schiele, in its raw emotionality. Ultimately, this piece feels like a window into a very personal, internal struggle. It's a reminder that art can be a way to grapple with difficult emotions and experiences.
