Angela Strassheim made this photograph, Untitled (Running Girl), with photography, but don't let that fool you, it's painterly. The greens and yellows are so gorgeous and saturated that they feel like they've been pulled straight from a fauvist painting. I like how Strassheim captured the sheen of sweat on the runner's body. It's like she's trying to capture the light itself, and how it illuminates the human form. And that gravel road - it’s almost like the artist is using it to draw the eye towards the car on the horizon. The image is a celebration of the female form in motion. It makes me think of Jenny Saville and her own celebration of physicality. Ultimately, this photograph is an invitation to think about the relationship between the body and the landscape, and between movement and stillness. It embraces ambiguity and multiple interpretations.
