Leo Putz made this painting of a woman in the bath with oil on canvas. It’s a symphony of brushstrokes, soft and sensual, like the caress of water on skin. Imagine Putz, brush in hand, circling the tub, capturing the curve of her spine, the tilt of her head, those fleeting moments of private reverie. The color palette is restrained, muted blues and creamy whites, punctuated by fleshy pinks, but, hey, who needs fireworks when you've got the human form? The paint is applied in thick, juicy dabs, giving the surface a tactile quality, as if you could reach out and feel the warmth of the water. The painting, for me, is a conversation, a shared moment between artist, model, and viewer. Putz owes a debt to the impressionists, sure, but he takes it somewhere else. It’s more intimate, more personal. And isn’t that what art is all about, making a connection, finding a bit of yourself in someone else's vision?
