Editor: Here we have Susan Rothenberg's "Untitled" from 1982, a drawing done in pencil. It has such an airy, almost ghostlike quality. What catches your eye most in this work? Curator: Well, firstly, the visible process. I love seeing the artist thinking on paper, that scratching, the repeated lines. It feels like she's circling an idea, not quite grabbing hold. Does that resonance echo something within us, that hesitant search for form? What about this piece really sings to you? Editor: I think it's how ambiguous it is. I see a figure, maybe in motion, but also pure abstraction. It’s this in-between space that fascinates me. It's kind of anxious-making but so raw and intriguing. Do you think she deliberately left it open to interpretation? Curator: Absolutely. And the starkness of the medium feeds that, doesn't it? Just pencil on paper, no frills. It invites us to complete the picture, almost to collaborate with Rothenberg in defining what this...being...actually *is*. Perhaps it’s less about answering and more about feeling. What are the raw emotions present when we look into something like this? Editor: Hmm. Definitely. And that's what keeps me engaged: that sense of possibility. Thank you for this fresh perspective; it is so helpful! Curator: The beauty, isn’t it, lies in the not knowing? Just allowing yourself to sit with the mystery. It's a joy to wander with you in that space.
