Georges Valmier made this ‘Figure’ using watercolors on paper, and I can just imagine him there, shuffling around his studio, brush in hand, deep in thought. There's a real sense of layering here. I see how he's built up these translucent washes of ochre, brown, and blue, letting them bleed and mingle into each other. It gives the piece an ethereal, dreamlike quality. The geometric shapes form a kind of puzzle that teases the eye. I love how the figure emerges through abstract planes and lines, almost as if it’s trying to come into focus. The colors are muted but so full of warmth. That soft brown, for instance, feels both grounded and expansive, like the earth itself. And those little pops of blue – they’re like glimmers of hope or maybe just the artist’s playful wink. The energy reminds me of other cubists but, here, he really brings his own sensibility. It's an ongoing conversation across time.
